Jean de la Harpe (far left) was a Heinz Fellow based in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh from 1996-1997. While here she finished her Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Graduate School of Public and Development Management University of Witwatersrand (Picard was co-Chair of her thesis). She has specialized in Water Use Policy and works in South Africa for the International Water and Sanitation Centre, a Dutch non-profit. Jean was active in the anti-apartheid movement (United Democratic Front) and she and Sally Rowney (Also in the picture) worked with the National Reception Committee when Mandela was released and arranged his first night in Johannesburg after his release (at Rowney’s house).
Jean de la Harpe is a Senior Programme Officer on local governance for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services at the International Water and Sanitation Centre She is also leading IRC’s Southern Africa Regional Programme. She has a Masters Degree in Management (Policy and Development Management) with distinction where she specialised in Environmental Management Governance frameworks. She was a Heinz Fellow based at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh in the late 1990s.
Dr. Robert Groelsema, Chief of Party, Democracy and Governance, Associates in Rural Development, Accra, Ghana. He holds the Masters degree in Public and International Affairs (ESD) from the University of Pittsburgh and the PhD in Political Science from Indiana University.
